DMI48FAQs

Data Set Up/Storage

Where are the data files stored? Can the data files be stored on a shared network drive?

While the software must be installed locally on each computer, data files may be stored either on a network or local drive. The location of the data files is determined by the user when a new data file is created. A browser allows the user to select the desired network or local drive location. The data files can be stored on a shared network drive and access granted to multiple users.

What is the file extension that the files are given?

The DMI48 data files are given an .F48 extension.

I just realized I should have called the Data Source I am using a different name. Is the best way to change the name to copy and save as a new name? Or can I re-name the file?

A user can use Windows Explorer to rename the file as needed.

Can multiple users be in the same set of files (Disclosure, Provision, Base Case, etc.) at the same time? Are there an unlimited number of users allowed access to the system?

The DMI48 Software is designed as a multi-user system. Changes made simultaneously to a data file by multiple users are saved depending on the order they were entered. The user data entered most recently will overwrite any previous changes and will be automatically saved. Users need to refresh a screen before they can see the changes made by another user. While a potentially unlimited number of users can be granted access to the system, user controls may be used to limit access by jurisdiction, issue, period, etc. in order to ensure data integrity.  Users have the ability to import/export adjustment data by issue, jurisdiction, period, etc so that users may work independently and then combine various data source files. An Anticipated update to the software includes data update tracking but is not yet currently available.

Why are the results different for multiple users accessing the same data source file?

Results are NOT saved  compute to compute. Results are saved upon exit the Analyze screen allowing multiple users to run comps with different Selections on the Analyze screen.  However, please note that the user who exits the screen last will overwrite the other users’ saved results.

Can I import only data parameter fields such as Entity, Category or Issue without entering any adjustments?

The Import CSV function currently checks all the required fields to make sure that there is data present in each required column and that it is in the correct format.  You cannot import data parameter information alone. You will be prompted to fill in the missing fields without the file being imported.
